A new strategic alliance between European accelerator-based ‘super-microscopes’ has been forged in Brussels on Monday.

Whether we can observe quantum superpositions (QSP) of macroscopic objects is arguably ‘the’ open question in quantum physics. An answer in the positive direction will boost the quest for the use of the weirdness of quantum mechanics in a much larger set of physical systems, not restricted to the microscopic world.

On Friday 10th of November National Laboratory of Frascati welcomed the sixty students who won the 2017 edition of the Asimov Award. They had the chance to visit the Laboratory for writing the best reviews of the works presented at the contest.

The yearly meeting of INFN International Evaluation Committee (CVI) took place in Frascati on the 16th and 17th of October. As laid down in the Statute, Committee’s task is to comprehensively assess the scientific and technological results achieved by the Institution and the future development plans.

Raoul Gatto, reference scientist in the international theoretical physics of the XX century, passed away on September 30th. He was at Frascati in two distinct periods, in the early sixties and in the years 1971-1974.  During his first period he mainly worked with Nicola Cabibbo and his students on the weak and strong interactions. 

Dr. Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, who is in Italy to join the 20th Edoardo Amaldi Conference about the development and peaceful use of atomic energy organized by the Accademia dei Lincei, visited National Laboratory of Frascati.

It will start in January 2018 a new edition of the National Laboratory of Frascati’s yearly program, Educational: a rich and varied range of initiatives designed for Students, Teachers and General Public.

Last July the KLOE-2 experiment successfully completed its third data-taking period (Run-III) at the DAΦNE Φ-factory collider.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2017 was awarded to Barry Barish and Kip S. Thorne, both of Caltech, and to Rainer Weiss of MIT, for their role in the discovery of gravitational waves

4-6 October, National Laboratory of Frascati It will start on the 4th of October the XVII edition of Incontri di Fisica 2017,an educational and training course in Modern Physics for high school teachers from all over Italy organized by LNF.
