INFN-LNF Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati
Pasquale Di Nezza, senior researcher at the Frascati National Laboratories, has been elected National Representative of the Italian LHCb collaboration, one of the four major experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), for the next three years. In his new role, he will coordinate the research activities of around 250 researchers and technologists from 14 INFN Divisions and several Italian universities.
LHCb has a broad scientific programme, with a particular focus on studying differences in the behaviour of matter and antimatter—key elements for understanding why matter clearly prevails over antimatter in the observable Universe. The experiment also investigates rare decays of hadrons containing beauty and charm quarks, processes that could reveal the existence of new particles or new fundamental forces, potentially opening the way to physics beyond the Standard Model.
Under Pasquale Di Nezza’s coordination, LHCb Italy is preparing to take on a new scientific and technological challenge: performing measurements with unprecedented precision through the development and deployment of next-generation detectors. These advances will further push the boundaries of knowledge in a field that is unlikely to be explored with the same sensitivity by other experiments in the near future.
