ARYA

SurfAce and mateRial studies for Accelerator TechnologY And related topics

The ARYA project aims to tackle most of the specific problems connected with the use of any material in an accelerator environment in terms of static and dynamic vacuum, impedance, electron and photon desorption yields, stability and all eventual detrimental effects induced by the possible onset of collective effects.

The mitigation of collective effects (e-cloud, etc.) in circular accelerators is an essential issue for planned and future circular colliders of ultimate performances, muon-based accelerators, cryogenic undulators etc. ARYA is aiming to tackle research challenges which are studied in international collaborations, more specifically, for High Luminosity (HL-) LHC, EIC and FCC (Future Circular Collider).

The study of the properties of the materials for the final design of the FCC-hh beamscreen is an example of the applications in which the ARYA project is directly involved. For the realization of the beamscreen, different technical requirements must be satisfied simultaneously. These requirements become critical in the case of high-performance circular accelerators and in particular in the presence of cryogenic parts like in FCC-hh.
