INFN-LNF Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati
From the 15th to the 19th of April the LNF organized a training school, “Life Science IR Micro-Spectroscopy”, at SESAME Synchrotron Light Source in Jordan , for the purpose of training young researchers from Middle East about the possibilities offered by the Synchrotron Light and enhancing scientific cooperation among the SESAME consortium members (Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority and Turkey). 22 students, representatives of almost every member state, participated to this school.
Scientists from the most prestigious international Synchrotron Light laboratories gave both theoretical and practical lectures on IR spectroscopy of biological material and on data and image processing.
This initiative is part of the OPEN SESAME project, funded by the European Commission in order to create and promote scientific and technological excellence in the scientific community which is rising around the SESAME Synchrotron, whose opening was held in May 2017.
Mariangela Cestelli Guidi, LNF researcher and responsible for the Frascati’s infrared synchrotron light beamline, coordinates the school: “Organizing the SESAME school has required a lot of effort and the overcoming of a number of difficulties, but we are sure the results will reward our commitment”.
