LATINO: a laboratory for research and innovation

The Regione Lazio will co-finance – for an amount of 1.7 ME – the project LATINO: A Laboratory in Advanced Technologies for INnOvation, aimed at creating a facility at Frascati National Laboratories (LNF) which will provide the scientific community and companies with technologies and expertise developed for particle accelerators.

The project was one of the winners of the regional competitive call for “Infrastrutture Aperte per la Ricerca” (Research Open Infrastructures) dedicated to economic research activities and technological transfer. The commitment is to create within 24 months a structure open to both domestic and foreign production and research sectors.

The facility will consist of four laboratories: Radio frequency; Magnetic measurements; Vacuum and Heat treatments; Mechanical Integration. It will be of interest for various economic sectors and it will have considerable applications in different areas (medicine, industry, security, environment, and cultural heritage).

LATINO’s activity fits in perfectly with the development of new technologies for accelerators that LNF has been carrying out for decades, also in view of European future initiatives to which INFN and LNF collaborate, such as ultra-compact plasma accelerators with radiofrequency structures, according to the design study of EuPRAXIA and Compact Light within H2020.
