November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999.

The Comitato Unico di Garanzia of INFN – whose mission is promote equal opportunities, enhance worker wellness, and combat discrimination – is fostering an awareness-raising campaign on this subject in all the INFN structures.

Within the framework of this initiative, all the Institute branches will publish on their website homepage a banner aimed at spreading a clear message about the Institution’s position concerning the issue and they will be organized events to get all the personnel involved in a reflection on every form of violence and discrimination.

We think the prevention of violence passes through a process of accountability including everybody so that the victims do not feel alone, instead everyone becomes aware of feminicides that today are still committed in our society. For this reason, we would like to spend a moment of reflection also at our Frascati National Laboratories, with the people we work with every day, confident that for someone it can be of great help.

In the wake of the project launched by the Mexican artist Elina Chauvet, many Italian squares have been swarmed by red shoes in memory of the women victims of violence. Joining this Day can be a way to feel symbolically engaged and to communicate that we cannot just ignore such damaging events.

Frascati National Laboratories invite all the personnel to wear something red as a symbol to show their participation to the initiative.
