To Catalina Curceanu the award “Voci di Scienza, Voci di Donna 2026” by Radio Parlamentare and the Parliamentary Intergroup for Knowledge and Scientific Research

Today, March the 25th, our colleague Catalina Curceanu, director of research at INFN Frascati National Laboratory, has been awarded with the “Voci di Scienza, Voci di Donna 2026” prize by Radio Parlamentare and the Parliamentary Intergroup for Knowledge and Scientific Research, together with eight other representatives from the scientific community.

The award “Voci di Scienza, Voci di Donna” aims to recognize the scientific and cultural value of women who, through their commitment to research, make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge and to the civic development of our society. It highlights the quality of their research, their intellectual responsibility, and their ability to represent with authority the presence of women in contemporary science, at any stage of their professional path.

I am very happy and deeply honored to receive the award “Voci di Scienza, Voci di Donna”. I accept it with gratitude and with a strong sense of responsibility,” says Catalina. “I dedicate this award to the memory of my parents: even though they are no longer here, they continue to accompany me every day, in my choices and in the passion that I have for what I do. I owe to them not only my path in science, but also the deepest roots of who I am. I share it with my sisters and with my family, a constant source of strength and inspiration. As for the “Voci di Scienza” part, I dedicate it to the National Institute for Nuclear Physics and to the Frascati National Laboratory, to all my colleagues and, in particular, to the young scientists in my group. A special thank also goes to the Municipality of Frascati, the place I now call home. This award celebrates the progress of women in science, but it also reminds us that, in many parts of the world, women voices are still not free. Science is universal, and the opportunity to take part in it must be universal as well.

To the award ceremony, held in the presence of institutional parliamentary representatives, Catalina participated in connection from Japan, where she is currently on a scientific mission. In her place, the award was collected by Diana Sirghi and Francesco Sgaramella, two members of her research group.

All LNF staff extend their congratulations to Catalina.
