Science gender and new generations – second day devoted to gender equality in physics

On the 16th of May 2018 at the INFN Frascati National Laboratories will be held the second day devoted to gender equality in physics, result of a collaboration between the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the National Research Council (CNR).

This initiative lies within the framework of the European project GENERA, Gender Equality Network in the European Research Area, involving 12 countries, 18 research institutions and 17 observatories and aiming at improving level playing field for men and women in the world of physics, which is traditionally characterized by a predominance of the male gender.

The program includes a series of talks by male and female researchers and representatives of the two promoting institutions, inviting to think about the gender policies currently being implemented in our country and about possible actions to be realized at school in order to raise awareness on this issue. After a brief analysis of some statistics, there will be a shift of perspective, moving the one of researchers, who will talk about their personal studying and the working experiences. In the end, special attention will be paid to the high school students participating in this contest by writing some papers about the topic “Women, science and gender bias”.
