International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2018

It was held today at National Laboratory of Frascati an event addressed to students in their 4th or 5th year of high school, devoted to the theme of women in science, waiting for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science of the next 11th of February. Ten speakers, representative of the different sectors – such as particle physics and engineering – have explained their own vision of the role of women in science, a field which is traditionally monopoly of men. But is it still like this? Are there real barriers to the participation of women? And why should girls choose to pursue a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) career? Ten different voices have tried to answer these questions, telling science from a female point of view, talking about the most inspiring historical figures, their educational background and career and their experience of both positive and negative aspects characterizing the position of women in the scientific world.

The event has been live-streamed.
