A second line for the BTF

Picture of the 450 MeV electron beam on one of the sensors.

The beam-test facility (BTF), a research infrastructure able to provide electron and positron beams from the LNF LINAC, after having been in operation for more than 15 years, enters a new phase.

During the years 2017 and 2018 a series of improvements made it possible to prepare a second beamline. This required a break-down of the operations until summer 2018, when the BTF-1 line started to provide PADME experiment with positrons.

Since mid-June 2019, the second line (BTF-2) has entered into regular operation for users (both scientific community and industrial partners). The first experimental group, guided by Eleuterio Spiriti, has successfully performed a test with high-energy electrons of the FOOT experiment vertex detector. In particular, they have been tested 4 sensors of the next-gen pixel detector, based on CMOS technology, belonging to the MIMOSA family (MIMOSA-28 Ultimate).
